In common parlance, we call it an instant connection, love at first sight, a feeling of having known them from before, being naturally drawn towards someone, or even a soul or past-life connection.
When we meet people, we don’t just encounter their physical presence — we meet their energy. It’s in the twinkle of an eye, the warmth of a hug, the quality of a handshake, the subtle light that surrounds them, the rhythm of their breath, the words they choose, and most importantly, how they make us feel. Authentic or pretentious — it often becomes evident within seconds.
But can everyone sense this? Not quite. The one who has explored greater depth within can easily sense the surface, but the one who remains at the surface can rarely perceive the depth. And when two people resonate at the same frequency, they are magnetically drawn to each other.
Growth, however, unfolds when one has already journeyed deep and the other is consciously striving to do so.
In coaching, we often say it’s a partnership between equals — a shared journey. Both individuals are intentional about their inner work, and through the dynamic exchange between them, they guide each other home — into deeper layers of awareness and being.
Every encounter carries meaning — some arrive to comfort us, some to challenge us, and others to awaken something long dormant within. The energy we sense in another is often a reflection of the awareness we’ve cultivated in ourselves. When we pause to notice what a connection evokes — warmth, curiosity, resistance, or expansion — we begin to see the subtle mirror that life holds up through every meeting.
In coaching, this awareness becomes a living practice. It teaches us to listen beyond words — to sense the emotion beneath, to hold space for what’s unspoken. The depth of a coaching conversation often mirrors the depth of the coach’s own awareness. The quality of the questions asked and the presence with which the coach listens become the very ground from which the client’s deeper insights emerge.
Ultimately, every connection — whether brief or lasting — calls us to return to our own truth. For it is not merely about how deeply we meet others, but how courageously we meet ourselves through them.
And perhaps the real inquiry is this: What do my connections reveal about the depths I have explored — and the depths I am still being invited to reach? Or are we all at exploring the similar depths ? Thoughts ?
